Grand Prix of Portland Rewind: Racing Through the Decades

The 2024 BITNILE.COM Grand Prix of Portland will reach multiple historic markers at Portland International Raceway (PIR), Aug. 23-25. The three-day race weekend will be the 30th professional open-wheel race between Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) from 1984-2003, then Champ Car World Series (Champ Car) from 2004-2007, and now an INDYCAR-sanctioned event at PIR. The event also marks 40 years since the inaugural Grand Prix of Portland won by Al Unser Jr. in 1984. As the 2024 race hits these significant milestones in 2024, it's the perfect time to look back at what has been a tremendous motorsport tradition in the Pacific Northwest over the past four decades.  

Herta, Kirkwood Complete ‘Big Day’ For Andretti Global

TORONTO (Sunday, July 21, 2024) – Michael Andretti’s raised right arm said it all following the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto at Exhibition Place, and the team owner could have raised two.

One for Colton Herta, another for Kyle Kirkwood.

The two drivers gave Andretti Global a win for the first time since last year’s rebranding and its first 1-2 finish in a race since Kirkwood and Romain Grosjean delivered in 2023 at Long Beach.

Aug. 23-25 NTT INDYCAR SERIES weekend features 10 total races from five series

PORTLAND, Ore. (July 16, 2024) – Single Day tickets for the 2024 BITNILE.COM Grand Prix of Portland, the annual NTT INDYCAR SERIES race weekend at Portland International Raceway (PIR), are on sale now to the public. O’Ward Holds Off Palou To Win Late Thriller at Mid-Ohio

LEXINGTON, Ohio (Sunday, July 7, 2024) – Pato O’Ward resisted constant pressure from NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship leader Alex Palou over the closing laps to win The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Presented by the 2025 Civic Hybrid on Sunday.

O’Ward slid his No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet sideways through the final corner on the 13-turn, 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to hold off Palou’s No. 10 Ridgeline Lubricants Chip Ganassi Racing Honda by .4993 of a second, the closest finish this season on a road or street circuit.

DAC-TO-DAC WINS: ANTÓNIO MAKES IT THREE IN A ROW AFTER PORTLAND DOUBLE

  • António Félix da Costa secured a spectacular double victory for TAG Heuer Porsche in Portland, marking his third consecutive win and equalling his 2019 record for the longest win streak in Formula E history.
  • Nick Cassidy, the current championship leader, failed to score points for the second consecutive race, allowing Mitch Evans and Pascal Wehrlein to tie for second place in the championship standings, setting up an intense showdown for the London finale on 20th and 21st July. 
  • Robin Frijns celebrated his 100th Formula E race with back-to-back podium finishes, while Pascal Wehrlein overcame early setbacks to finish fourth, keeping his championship hopes alive.

Sat. 29 Jun. 2024 - António Félix da Costa demonstrated remarkable composure and skill to secure a victory at the frenetic Hankook Portland E-Prix - Round 13 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. A late unforced error by current World Championship leader Nick Cassidy saw the Jaguar TCS Racing driver slip from the lead in the penultimate lap, dramatically altering the race outcome.

QUALI REPORT: Evans Fires Up Title Fight Further With Pole In Portland

Jaguar TCS Racing's Evans managed to add an additional three points to his points tally after taking pole for Round 13.

Mitch Evans and his Jaguar TCS Racing will start from the Julius Baer Pole Position, as the Kiwi managed to break track records on his way to the first place starting slot. The points for pole also keeps Evans in the championship battle, as well as giving the team additional points for the Teams’ Standings which Jaguar could wrap up this weekend.
